Amrohi was nominated for an Academy Award for his roles in the movies Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Chak De! India (2001), and Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001). (2007). He also appeared in Saeed Akhtar Mirza-directed television productions including Mirza Ghalib and Nukkad in the 1980s. He portrayed the barber Karim in Mirza Ghalib.
Amrohi further taught acting at Mumbai’s Zee Institute of Media Arts, which is run by Zee TV.
At the age of 73, he passed away from respiratory failure on February 14, 2023.
